Tomorrow is the opening day of Renton Farmer’s Market! I’ll be there at 3:00 PM with members of my family as the opening bell formally kicks off the 2019 season.
One of the most excited family members is my granddaughter Evie. Last year she eagerly attended almost every farmer’s market, participating in the Kid’s Passport program and doing crafts at the Kid’s Patch. She also greatly enjoyed helping her mom pick out delicious fruits and vegetables. You may run across her tomorrow in a red wagon enjoying the first strawberries of the season and other bounty.
The Kid’s Passport program, which promotes healthy eating while having fun at the market, will return this year after the kids get out of school, currently planned for June 25.
The Market offers the best farm-fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers from Washington farmers every Tuesday, June through September. from 3 to 7 p.m. The market also features baked goods, wine and beer, food, and arts & crafts. There’s also live music, cooking and gardening demonstrations. The Farmers Market started in 2002, after we completed the Piazza on South Third Street in downtown Renton. My sincere thanks to the many market organizers, volunteers, farmers, entertainers, artisans, chefs, and other community members that continue to make this Farmers Market such a healthy, vibrant and fun part of our city.
Oh, I LOVE this picture of Anastasia & Evie last year! We saw them almost weekly at the Farmer’s Market & admired A’s tenacity in bringing a toddler on such hot days (Anastasia, remember my tip: freeze an empty bottle like Gaterade partially with water, fill with water on leaving the house for cold water while out & about).
See everyone tomorrow, Tuesday June 4th at the Market!
Thank you, Marcie! I totally made a mistake yesterday, and left the water bottle in my car. Evie and I got so hot and thirsty, but we ended up buying a delicious mango drink at the food area. Next week I am going to follow your suggestion and bring a half-frozen water bottle, along with a sunscreen and sun hat.
Yes, we went to almost every single Farmer’s Market last year! I pretty much only missed it due to the smoke. Really hope this summer won’t be as smoky
