King County has agreed to pay a severely-injured woman $21,000,000 in a negligence settlement for failing to act on complaints about squatters with dangerous dogs. There is an important lesson here for all municipalities to act on complaints, and not sweep resident concerns under the rug.

Especially if the government is notified of it repeatedly. Like… I don’t know… the 6th and Park building. That our Crime and Safety chair Carmen Rivera has been ignoring for the last few years.
Yes, reasonable code enforcement of public health hazards is a vital component of public safety in a city. We don’t necessarily need to be a nanny state about minor issues that no one is complaining about, but when there are real public health hazards that residents are repeatedly reporting we need to correct them.
