We’re nearing the end of the primary election cycle, and ballots are due on August 1st. That’s just nine days away. Please get your ballots in, and remind your friends and neighbors to do the same. This primary is important for getting Renton on a safe and prosperous trajectory that will make all our lives better.
For those readers supporting my campaign, please digitally share my flyer below with anyone who has not seen it. (Note there are two images: the front and back of the flyer. Right click on the images, download them, and share in email and social media. Thanks!)
Thanks Randy for providing a sense of your policies and a sense of your abilities. It’s helped me become more aware of the issues in Renton that effect me and my friends. While I don’t agree with everything you have my support and my vote.
Usually I skip primary elections, but this one is important.
Thanks JoJo! I appreciate your support!
Our Renton city council is one vote away from chaos. Four of its members have at times, shown interest in following Seattle’s failed policies. Luckily, they haven’t all agreed at once yet, but it’s a dangerous situation.
We were one vote away from becoming a dumping ground for Seattle’s self-inflicted homeless problems. Please look at downtown Burien for what would have happened to us.
Our police department has been defunded by slow-rolling any budget increase. Now, we have fewer officers per person than almost 90% of US cities.
Our SoundTransit funding has been given away without a fight. We lost $1.9 billion, which could have helped us connect Renton to other areas through a light rail network.
Three council members have countered requests from South Sound mayors for help with the drug problem. Instead of acting, they prefer to ignore public fentanyl use.
One of these council members voted to let a puppy mill retailer operate in Renton.
These decisions are creating severe problems for our city. We can’t let this continue.
It’s essential to have people like Randy on our council, who not only thoughtfully considers problems but articulates the nature of the problem. Opening dialog to find better solutions.
Vote Randy Corman in this primary, or if you can’t do that, as one poster put it. “Anybody but Kim.”
Greg
Thank you Randy for the reminder. I would only add that ballots should not be mailed except in situations where you can’t leave the house. Best option is to drop them off at the drop box on Grady Way and as close to the election (or on election) day.
Thank you Adriana for the important tip. I agree that, for those who can get their ballots there, the drop boxes are preferable to the mail. This is especially true as we get very close to the election. Ballots can get delayed more easily in the mail, and then not counted in some circumstances. The drop boxes get emptied every day and go straight to the elections office. (The one Adriana mentions on Grady is actually at the elections office). On election day ballots can be submitted in the drop boxes right up until the 8:00 PM final deadline, but the post office will stop postmarking several hours before that at the end of their workday.
In addition to the Grady ballot drop box, there is one in Renton Highlands at Renton Technical College/King County Health Center, and one at the Fairwood Library. The complete list of drop box locations can be found here https://kingcounty.gov/~/media/depts/elections/how-to-vote/ballots/returning-my-ballot/boxes/ballot-drop-boxes.ashx?la=en
If you can’t get to a drop box, then don’t hesitate to vote by mail, but please do it soon. Submitting your ballot by mail well-ahead of election day should typically not be a problem, and you actually can track it using King County’s ballot tracker if you are tech savvy.
Lastly, if you have lost your ballot or did not receive one, it is easy to fix this issue and you can still vote. Contact the King County Elections Office online or via telephone, and they will instruct you on how you can get a replacement. If you have a printer you can actually do it at home in many cases. Please don’t let a lost ballot stop you from voting in this important election! https://kingcounty.gov/depts/elections.aspx
Randy, thank you for the reminder. BTW – I voted for YOU!
Praying that you are the winner of this race for Renton City Council!
From the Desk of Patricia Wade
Thank you Patricia!!!
Not only do I hope you make it in the primary, but I hope you have a worthy opponent that doesn’t think slandering people is an excellent way to move our city forward.
Mike Westgaard is the fresh leadership that Renton so desperately needs. A fervent advocate for affordable housing, Mike’s approach to reshaping public safety untangles it from the white power structures, making our city more equitable, particularly for BIPOC residents. He doesn’t merely voice concerns about systemic inequalities – he proposes tangible solutions: fast-tracking the construction of duplexes and fourplexes, advocating for rent control, and raising the minimum wage. He isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo, demanding more from landlords to contribute to the community they profit from.
Safety, Mike understands, isn’t about police presence. It’s about ensuring every resident feels protected, heard, and supported. In an innovative move, Mike plans to establish a new crisis response team to handle situations with empathy and non-violence, offering a lifeline to those in need. He also champions greater accountability in our police forces, working to ensure that any officer who harms our community faces the necessary consequences.
Mike’s vision for Renton has resonated with many, earning him endorsements from prominent local bodies like Renton Progress and Seattle Democratic Socialists of America, as well as Renton Councilmember Carmen Rivera. Their support underlines his commitment to progressive values and the wellbeing of all Renton residents. If you want a city council member who will tirelessly fight for those often overlooked, who will make Renton a place where everyone can thrive, Mike Westgaard IS YOUR CANDIDATE. Let’s vote for our communities. Let’s vote for Mike Westgaard
Good intentions, while important, don’t construct houses, raise wages, or solve crime.
Thank you , Summerboi, now I know who not to vote for.
Endorsed by Carmen.
Automatic pass.
Nice try, Winter.
I’ve been looking at this off and on for a few days, and it speakers to the problem of selecting our leaders. I’ll be blunt, Mike hasn’t don’t a thing for Renton and his only claim to fame is some rich Seattle Socialists like him.
That being said, it’s amazing how a lot of words put In the right order can sound convincing. If you didn’t know better, this guy sounds like he’s got a plan. But all it is platitudes tailored to current problems.
Not sure what else to say.
Anon – don’t think Mike has a plan so much as Carmen has a plan and needs support.
Good luck Randy! I hope Renton recognizes how hard you’ve worked for us and that you’ll work hard again!
