Aviation Week: 737 is still current technology– any replacement won’t be for a long time

Our own Renton-built and Renton designed 737’s remain current for the market, according to this story in Aviation Week. According to the story, there is no clear improvement in technology that would make a new airplane significantly better than the Renton-built most popular jetliner ever, so Boeing is pushing back development of a replacement for more years. With a backlog of orders near 2000, Renton can look forward to tens of billions of dollars of additional products flying out of our city for years to come.

  • That’s good to hear!

I’m glad to see that Boeing won’t be pulling out of Renton any time soon. Even with the recent upgrades to the area and the new economic stimulation that comes from the Landing and other such developments, I feel that Boeing is still an integral part of this city. At the very least, it would be a sad part of our history leaving if Boeing were to ever back out of this city in favor of some other region.
