sorry but have u heard anything on the grocery store for the landing? or any new tenants?
A new restaurant called Papaya’s is moving in – doesn’t sound like a chain.
sorryu…i dont knwo where else to talk about this…papaya is vietnamese food…..im sorry…but do we need more of that food around here? We have them at every strip mall. i was just windering about the grocery store…havent heard anything in a long time about it. Also the 10th street…which is supposed to be a fashion stroll…has nothing on it but izakaya sushi, the rock, and element spa…..and leftover space for “stores” isnt that much..maybe like 3 stores. WOO HOO?
Don’t confuse a full-on Vietnamese restaurant with a Pho restaurant… they’re not the same. If Papaya is a Vietnamese restaurant with a full-featured menu, I’m all for it. I haven’t yet been to the Lemon Grass restaurant down by IKEA, but it looks nice.
We need to patient with the The Landing’s progress. A lot of the businesses are going to depend on the movie theater and 900 apartments being rented out across the street. It’s also going to be pretty tough for some businesses to open in the near future, given the credit crisis and the likely severe recession (sorry, Ben, but it’s looking like things will indeed go that way). The best thing we can do is to patronize the businesses that are already open (or will soon be), especially the restaurants, which are always vulnerable to failure.
i saw white house, black market left kent station to go to southcenter. crappy! I hope the landing finds some good quality shopping stores though, for both men and women…maybe higher end. I can only hope. Kent station isnt getting leased out and hasnt been for the past year or so…ah.
AND I DUNNO….papaya is located at crossroads shopping complex in bellevue. Its like a quick stop in (like how daphnes greek cafe is)….so i dunno what to take away from this. I thought we would have some more upscale restraunts somewhere in this development.

A lot of the restaurants inside the Crossroads mall are mini-versions of their parent restaurants, so that doesn’t necessarily mean Papaya is going to be a takeaway place. But I guess we’ll find out!
Personally, I’d rather see more upscale restaurants go in downtown, where they’d have a lot more character.

i looked at the map of where papaya is going…and its right across from the theaters…ion a tiny little spot…
im sure it will be a walk in kind of quick stop food…

Heck, as long as it’s not a Subway, I think it’s an appropriate addition. There’s nothing wrong with having a mix of dining choices, especially near a movie theater.
I’ll second that:
Pho is to Vietnamese Cuisine as French Fries are to French Food.
Lemon Grass is awesome! Service sucks but the food is worth the wait.

I think you’re right – Recession is coming. I’m just tired of all the chicken-little stuff that comes around the election. People were pissing about Bill Clinton when the dot-com bubble burst, and now it’s George’s turn to bear the brunt. Neither president had control of the situation – so I often wonder that the point of blaming them for it is…
Joe’s (sports) has saved my butt already – I needed MSR Butane and they had it. I saved $4 in automobile gas!

It is too bad because whither you want to admit to it or not. The Boeing Company has brought a lot of prosperity to this city over the years. It does affect the need for stores in Renton.
The question is is this all the cuts or the first of many because of the financial mayhem.

Given the poor state of the airline industry (thanks in large part to fuel prices) even before this current economic crisis, I’d say we can expect some dramatic airline collapses and cutbacks in the coming months. The only good news is that the healthier airlines that are in the process of replacing inefficient older jets will continue to do so, since fuel prices are dictating such replacements. Even so, Renton should be prepared for another cyclical contraction in Boeing’s business.

i wonder if they will get rid of anymore boeing land to the city.
You know the old stoneway site on maple valley highway? they are digging that up now because of contamination. Stoneway is hoping to develope that property into appt, condos and retail. should be within the next few years. that will be nice 🙂
hey randy….on the maple valley highway project…going into renton…are they gunna put trees in the median? i think that would look a lot nicer.
First thing I thought when I saw this was “gee, Boeing and SWA negotiated a great story to improve Boeing’s position due to the strike.” While the economy certainly plays a role in it, I wouldn’t be surprised if Boeing and Southwest worked out a deal to make sure that other deliveries could be made in a timely manner if the strike goes on very long.
