SB left an update this morning on my post “Not ‘willing sellers’; forty homes and businesses are being taken by use or threat of eminent domain.” Please click here to read that post for details on this issue.
Here is SB’s Comment: “And as of yesterday, the minority run businesses on the corner of Airport & Logan have been demolished. More lost local businesses. And the general public drives by, unaware their tax dollars, sucked up by the Renton School District, are being used to ruin the lives of their fellow citizens – instead of to improve the education of students.”

Anything we should know about who to vote for in the upcoming Renton school board election?
During last nights Candidate Forum, responses to the question regarding using the threat of eminent domain never got a clear answer. If the video from the event gets posted I hope everyone views it. I also hope it helps them gather information leading them to responsible selections when voting day comes.
I’m voting for Meagan Powell in the only contested Renton school board race, Director District 5. Meagan has shown strong concern for the Tobin neighborhood, as well as tremendous concern for ensuring our precious tax money gets spent on projects and programs that will actually help the students.
For clarification my previous comment was directed to those coming up for election to city council. I completely agree with Randy about Megan Powell with her concern for students and projects to help elevate education and her teaching background, I know where my votes goes. Thanks to Megan for stepping up…
Sounds good. Our school board needs a shake up. More education focus and less team sports focus.
I’m voting for Meagan Powell for school board. She’ll be an “outsider” among the current board members and administration, and stand up for what students and staff need. Vote for Meagan to start the change for better education in Renton.
Vote No for Renton Schools. This is financial malfeasance at its finest with a willing Renton City Council; while attendance and student outcomes are failing. I heard rumors last year freshman class collectively had below average grades they forced teachers to inflate them at the last minute.
I can’t vote to give Renton Schools anymore money until they prove they know how best to use what they have. The whole RHS project and using the threat of eminent domain for a baseball field left a bad taste in my mouth. The relationship between the city council and the school board also raises a lot of questions. I believe Megan Powell would be a breath of fresh air.
I’ll add in another endorsement for Meagan Powell for school board, as she has continued to show care and understanding about what is happening around Renton High, as well as speaking directly to parents and teachers at smaller schools in the district that often get overlooked.
Unfortunately the biggest problem is Avanti Bergquist and her typical “I’m smarter than everyone” attitude that never replies to her local constituents, yet someone gets to run unopposed. The Bergquist political machine has cost taxpayers in the Highlands thousands of dollars a year without any accountability. Not all of get a $1 mln developer windfall like the Bergquist brag about.

That’s… interesting. Could you elaborate?
Steve endorses domestic violence abusers.
There’s another election going on… pity that Carmen’s one on one meetings with you are blunting your opinion.
I’m not sure if this comment was meant for me, but for anyone who missed it, I want to remind readers I am enthusiastically endorsing Mary Clymer for Renton City Council Position 2 (currently held by Councilmember Rivera.)
Here is my endorsement write-up for Ms. Clymer.
Then why did you meet with Carmen? You know perfectly well that a psychopath believes their own lies to the point that others believe the lies as well.
Oh come on. In the livejournal days you went after the Mayor like a rabid dog for lipstick on a mirror.
But now you’re pulling your punches for a domestic violence abuser. It’s it because Carmen once was cute?
I’ve called it like I see it with Councilmember Rivera’s performance, as I do with other officials’ performance (and public policy issues in general). I doubt she would say I’ve gone easy on her. Here is a search of my blog entries that mention Councilmember Rivera.
After the crap she pulled on you, the lies and accusations, why would you waste 2 minutes on this person?
I’m sure the president of the Renton Police Guild appreciated his one-on-ones with her.
