Just a retelling of the same old stuff.
With a few more lies on Carmen’s part.
I like how Carmen puppets can’t refute anything in this. They just accuses everyone of being a bigot for having the audacity of noticing.
wait what? she had no relationship with Cashman and this came out of nowhere? hahahahahahahaha
Randy, the promotion of the smears now amplified by the notoriously disreputable* Daily Mail should embarrass you and insult Mary, in whose service you must think repeating the smears benefit.
I suggest a better use of your platform here in the service of Mary’s candidacy will be to allow her to post and enable a dialogue with your audience about what she will do to improve the lives of our community and council governance.
For example, what will Mary do and when regarding the festering Fentanyl Fun House on Park Ave?
What does Mary believe Carmen could have done better to enforce the codes for the safety of the North Renton neighborhood? Or does Mary think there is some other person more responsible for that years long highly visible problem?
Thank you.
*Wikipedia bans Daily Mail for “poor fact checking, sensationalism, flat-out fabrication”
Daily Mail is too unreliable and can’t be used as a source, Wikipedia editors rule.
https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/02/wikipedia-bans-daily-mail/
The Daily Mail online paper is read by 25 million readers in the UK, and another 25 million or so worldwide. This is the first time in my memory that a Renton Council race has been covered by a newspaper with such a broad readership. To me, that in itself is newsworthy.
With regard to the details reported in the Daily Mail, the information is not there because of anything I said or did. To the degree the article is embarrassing, it’s certainly not my fault. When I was on Council for 28 years we didn’t see European papers covering our campaigns.
My biggest disagreements with Councilmember Rivera have been regarding dangerous policies she’s advocated for, that have increased the number of deaths on our streets and highways. Her inaction regarding dangerous buildings have also put lives at risk. I find it ironic that she is teaching at a college, and yet demonstrates little-to-no critical reasoning or research skills when it comes to public policy.
How about you host Mary for a dialogue with your audience?
Thanks p michael. This is a good idea, and I will ask Mary if she can help me with this.
That The Daily Mail has a large number of readers or is owned and operated in Europe is interesting.
Porn Hub is Canadian and gets more clicks and makes more money. So what?
Both those “businesses” make money publishing salacious material.
Using my critical reasoning I think a publication that sees fit to caption a photo with the headline
“Meghan’s seed will taint our Royal Family.” or is banned as a source for Wikipedia (the only ban I’m aware of) isn’t a publication to forward clicks to for “news”.
It is not the story which is embarrassing Randy. Harassing people of color, or LGBTQ, or politically liberal is what The Dail Mail tabloid does, daily.
The embarrassment should be yours for promoting that rag and it’s agenda. And for what? For what?
Harassing people of color or LGBTQ……
Look who drank the kool-aid! I bet carmen has never attacked people in Renton either and is always the victim by your accounts too.
What CARMEN COULD HAVE DONE to protect the safety of North Renton was to LISTEN TO NEIGHBORS WHEN THEY BROUGHT THE PROBLEM TO THE COUNCIL 3 YEARS AGO!!!
Instead, she ignored repeated warnings, hiding behind a “don’t disturb the unhoused” approach, and turned her back on residents due to her own personal agenda.
It wasn’t until RE-ELECTION became an issue that she started pretending to address it at the Crime & Safety Committee. Even then, her focus was on proving neighbors wrong, pushing “there are no calls for service” instead of addressing the real problems. She kept repeating there was a “reduction in calls” when, in ONE MONTH ALONE:
1 – An overdose took another life in the building.
2 – Teenagers threw HVAC units off the roof into traffic.
3 – Another multi-jurisdictional fire broke out.
All of this in a building that isn’t even supposed to be occupied — and all while Carmen claimed “there have been no substantial incidents.”
If Carmen cared about your neighborhood and the impact this building has had, she would have:
Asked RRFA why they aren’t enforcing the owner’s contract to provide a fire watch.
Questioned why, out of all the city fines issued, only $1,000 came from RRFA despite the huge cost in resources to deal with this property.
Called out the millions of gallons of water wasted when occupants broke the main water line and flooded the garage.
Reached out to local businesses to hear their experiences.
Met with the principal at the elementary school a block away to learn about the drugs, crime, and theft linked to the building’s occupants.
Insisted on a fence and security at the property.
Had the City board up the broken windows, pick up the garbage and paint over the graffiti rather than just removing the signs off the building that wounded their egos.
Instead, CARMEN has been too busy trying to prove neighbors “exaggerated” about the problems at the building (her own words).
Rather than defending a councilmember who ignored residents to push her own agenda, maybe ASK CARMEN why she failed to act — and why others, like Randy, are left to bring transparency or challenge Mary on “what’s she going to do?”
Direct the questions about the FENTANYL FUN HOUSE at the INCUMBENT who’s done nothing to reduce the impact, instead of at those working to fix the problems Carmen ignored.
Or keep defending her — and expect more of the same: an unsafe building, drug use normalized, police pursuits removed, and efforts to DEFUND & ABOLISH THE POLICE. Hard to complain about the problem when you’re protecting the very person contributing to it.
1. I’ve not ever had a problem in over 3 years getting Councilwoman Rivera to listen to me re the Fentanyl Fun House.
2. In my reaching out in every way to get that problem fixed I have an email from Jon Schuldt
Chief | Renton Police Department stating “As your police chief I am responsible and accountable”
IMHO, Councilwoman Rivera, together with the rest of the council and our MAYOR need to support the Chief if he has requested it, but I am unaware of any request and hold him accountable.
But Councilwoman Rivera alone is not responsible for that mess and years of ineffective inaction.
Regarding all the things that were not done by the City, as the Chair of the Safety Committee Councilwoman Rivera should demand answers from the City and the executive. But I don’t think it is Rivera who has brought about the behind closed doors executive session culture.
You do realize that people who blindly defend Rivera are part of the problem that allows and enables her to continue to tear apart others in this city without any accountability for the divides she causes?
Her political policies could be spot on, but her personal approach is similar to our current national leadership, where collaboration and community is no longer the priority. The damage it causes to the community, from a position that should be striving to find commonalities and solutions, overshadows any positive outcomes she might find.
Glad you find the ability to connect with her though and completely ignore and dismiss what others have experienced.
You’re entitled to your opinion, but facts are not arbitrary.
I’m neither blind nor ignoring anything.
If “tearing down” and “striving to find commonalities” are your concerns, perhaps one could find guidance from Matthew 7:3-5:
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”
The fact a “notoriously disreputable* Daily Mail” is covering this race at all, tells you in itself the quality of candidate and human being to warrant that attention and coverage in the first place.
Is the Daily Mail covering the Renton election?
You can read the headline at the top of Randy’s post.
What does the first sentence of the article say?
A left-winged Seattle councilwoman has taken the lead in initial primary election polls…
To be fair, the article does mention she has “two opponents”, so maybe you’ve concluded this is covering an election, somewhere? Seattle? Renton? King County?
My original point is The Daily Mail is a notorious unreliable British tabloid known for poor fact checking and flat-out fabrication with a long history of racist, misogynist, colonial, right wing opinions. And for whatever it’s worth, the only publication to be banned as a source for Wikipedia, a badge that Pravda never earned.
This ‘coverage’ is click bait designed to engage and promote rage. Ruin a hour of your life and go read the comments.
Examples:
1) “With mail in ballots, it’s probably the same hundred people voting thousands of times. And let’s not forget the deceased voters.”
2) “Seattle will always vote for the most atrocious communists to run the city council and for mayor. They are all crazy and they deserve what they vote for. Same with Chicago and NYC.”
3) Seems Portland and Seattle are full of these malignant leftist trash.”
4) “That’s because people in Seattle are just as stupid as the ones in New York who want to elect a socialist communist imbecile
Daily mail should do a story on 65% of the United States population that is obviously too stupid to be allowed to ever vote again”
The Daily Mail is not reporting anything for the benefit of Renton or it’s voters. And any reporting by the Daily Mail about anything Rentonian should not be promoted by us. It’s a cesspool.
Spin baby, Spin.
How embarassing for Renton. We should be so proud.
The Daily Mail loves to get involved in elections.
Did you know The Daily Mail was a loud supporter of BREXIT? How’s that going for the UK?
Don’t worry. The owner of the Daily Mail, Jonathan Harmsworth, 4th Viscount Rothermere, is doing just fine.
the Daily Mail isn’t the only source speaking out against the incumbent. But get stuck on your opinions about the Daily Mail to defend what the incumbent does and downplay the realities that continue to be broadcast by swinging back at other people.
I recognize the Daily Mail is interested in selling papers and getting online viewers, and that makes them likely to cover an election story shrouded in sordid controversy.
This is one of the many reasons why our elected officials and others running for office should conduct themselves with decorum, and try not to embarrass the jurisdiction they are supposed to represent. Getting in physical altercations with another Council Member, frightening a former domestic partner and making them summon police, screaming at parade participants… all these invite journalists to come pay attention to Renton for the wrong reasons.
Yes, it can be challenging to always be thoughtful and keep emotions in check 24/7, but that is part of the job of being an elected representative. When an official is impulsive or unusually quick to anger they are going to create chaos and draw attention to our city. If someone is not ready to keep their emotions in check, or they have unresolved anger issues, they should not run for elected office. Elected positions are important jobs, not therapy.
Randy, this is my last reply today on this issue.
I ask you reconsider and reanalyze what you posted today.
The Daily Mail is not covering the Renton election and a sorrid controversy.
It is right there in the headline you screenshot.
‘WOKE SEATTLE…”
I agree I don’t like the headline. It tells me that the words “Woke Seattle” must get clicks in Europe. Our region should strive to be caring and progressive in a way that truly heals our cities and makes us the envy of others around the world, not a popular punchline. This will only come from working together. I just don’t see Councilmember Rivera demonstrating the skills that will get us there.
P Michael
Don’t blame Randy for bringing this to our attention. I first saw it as notification from Reddit. It has also been my experience that Randy fact checks everything he posts here and I for one value his postings. I plan to continue looking at the incumbents record and what the others have to offer before making a decision on my vote. I hope you do the same with an open mind.
“Do not make allegations of criminal, unethical, or other personal wrongdoing that you do not have proof to back up. Avoid profane, obscene, vulgar, lewd, discriminatory, or sexually-oriented language. Honest, respectful, good-faith discussion of public officials’ actions and their results are protected speech.”
Anonymous, please provide us one other Daily Mail article which meets Randy’s standard quoted above.
To the extent you perceive blame of Randy in my shaming of his promotion of the Daily Mail’s smear of Seattle and by association Renton voters, perhaps I believe in those published standards a tad more than you do.
It takes a special skill to suck so much that you wind up on the Daily Fail.
The incoming tide doesn’t wind up drowning you.
The inability to understand what happens regularly, to the hour, and act accordingly winds up injuring or killing you. Maybe that’s a special skill? Hope you aquire it
I’ll tell you what drowns people. Getting rid of lifeguards at family swim beaches, something else that has happened under Councilmember Rivera’s four years of serving on Council. Our taxes are up as much as 30% or more, but we lost our lifeguards at Coulon Park. And we have tragically seen more drownings as a result. If I were still chair of Public Safety (as she is), I would be working on a plan to bring our lifeguards back.
If you’re going to threaten people, you might consider writing in a way that doesn’t suggest a cognitive handicap. I suspect one could evade you by hiding behind a pencil
Wow! xxxx …….are like opinions everyone has one.
