I’ve seen a lot of restaurants in many major cities in my life, but I’ve never seen any with the quite the same intriguing decor as The Rock Wood Fire Pizza, opening it’s doors to the public for the first time this Sunday at the Landing.
I had a chance to get a sneak peek at the unusual architecture and decorations of the dining areas and the bar today. I would characterize it as a Hard Rock Cafe meets Pirates of the Caribbean.
Brickwork appears to be collapsing everywhere, while seemingly makeshift beams, bulwarks, ropes, and other details appear to be holding the building together. Don’t worry though…the building is completely safe, and has past the sharp eyes of our building inspectors. A church within the restaurant holds extra seating, as does a loft dining area that you access on ancient-looking stairs bearing the names of classic rock bands. Guitars, rock band posters, wall stencils, plants, pipes, crazy railings, fireplaces, and a million other wild details further add to the funky, party ambiance of the place.
I have five kids, three who are young adults, and I know this will be popular with this crowd. It will also be popular with those of us who are a bit more mature and looking for a place out of the ordinary that respects the music WE grew up with.
I did not have my camera with me today, so the pictures below are from one of the other locations, not the Landing. But these are highly representative of the decoration at the Landing location…if anything, the Landing seems larger and better.

Hard Rock Cafe meets Pirates of the Caribbean, that is an original characterization.
Going by the taste of the pizza from The Rock in Kent, it is a good place to eat.

Rich and I are looking forward to it.
