I’m watching him give his speech right now. I know he will be a great president. And John McCain will continue to be a very important senator.
I was touched by his speech. What a historic night.

Whee!
McCain came back from the year 2000 and gave a very gracious concession speech.
…
There’s a lot of good will come of this:
A lot of demographics will now have to pull their own wight around now. No more affirmative-action, no more race cards.
No more excuses. Obama did it, so can you.
…
I get a perverse delight thinking how Hillary or Jessie Jackson are lying awake at night thinking – it could have been MEEEEEE.
McCain will go back to his nine houses, his wife, and his honor.
That is something my girlfriend and I were just discussing – that speech was from the McCain that I remember. I really hope he stays in the Senate for as long as possible. I believe he is one of our best senators ever, and will be remembered among the likes of ‘Scoop’ Jackson.
Jessie Jackson? I hope he gets heartburn. His rabble rousing style of politics damaged this country for decades. I hope Obama’s victory finally puts the victim mentality to bed.
Landslide?!?
Landslide!?!!?
This is a landslide:
Re: Landslide?!?
I was but a yonng’en back then (9 years old). Was it really that lopsided? How did Mondale even show his face in public?
Re: Landslide?!?
While nobody liked Mondales platform, just about everybody like him as an honest and kind man. He came within a few thousand votes of losing even his home state – I’m glad that didn’t happen.
Re: Landslide?!?
ha ha
Yep, that WAS a landslide. I remember Mondale’s platform. It was this:
(1) raise taxes
Bravo!!!
What a historic moment! Obama will be a remarkable president and is certainly what we need at this time in our nation. I may be too optimistic, but I hope this will be the beginning of clean campaigns that stick to the issues. I have already had so many e-mails from around the world from friends who stayed up to watch the results. McCain gave a good speech and is the McCain I remember and admired. We need him in the Senate to continue doing good service.
Re: Bravo!!!
I as McCain/Palin supporters are saddened tonight but we as republicans are patriots. So now that we have a president elect…lets pray for him. Enough negative talk. We need to ask God to give him guidance and wisdom to lead this great country. God can work in the hearts of rulers. Remember that!
The Bad:
The bad thing about this recen election is now that Obama broke his promise to go for public-financing of his election, I’m afraid that this is the end of fair financing. Because of the Democrats broken promises, Obama was able to outspend McCain three to one – the next election, no party will be dumb enough to trust the other party.
>> I hope it bodes well for the future of the Republican party.
We’re already beginning to check hands for Banjo calluses and showing them the exit.
Huh? What?
I dozed off . . . . is the election over? Who won?
Re: Huh? What?
>>I dozed off . . . . is the election over? Who won?
The one who promised the most free things.
He’s not even in office!!
He’s not even inaugurated and look: We’re heading into a recession, we’re torturing prisoners in Gitmo, and, according to Biden, we’ll be attacked soon!
OMG!
I’m moving to Canada, where they elected a conservative!
Re: He’s not even in office!!
Don’t even try to blame the bad economy on Obama – a typical conservative tactic. Let the record show that the economy was in the toilet BEFORE the campaigns were even fully underway.
Re: He’s not even in office!!
Lighten up…
I was clearly joking, intact if Obama can’t fix the economy, it’s not really the presidents fault. The levers that a president can pull to fix the economy have already been pulled. Several times.
We ascribe too much importance to our president – he’s the head of the executive branch, only one of of three branches of our federal government. He’s not god.
….
As you get older, you live trough a few business cycles and it begins to no scare you as much. Just keep our jobs, don’t spend a bunch of money we don’t have and we’ll all be fine.
…
Technacally – The only recession Bush II has was at the begining of his term. We’re not in a resession (yet) – when the Tech Stock Bubble burst, it was under Clinton’s watch and Bush The Minor inherited the resulting recession.
Re: He’s not even in office!!
Of course I’m kidding…
>>The Conservative Party in Canada should serve as a model for a revamped Republican Party here in the US.
I respectively disagree in method! I don’t want the Republicans to win just because they have the name. I want them to win because they become (again) the party of individual liberty, individual rights and individual prosperity.
There’s always a balance to be struck between individualism and socialism, and we need my Old Republican party to be there when things sway too far to the left.
I think I understand what you mean about the “Big Tent”, but I want ideals to win over political pandering.
For example:
I’ll know we’re on the right track when the Republicans support civil-unions, not because they want to pander to the Gay vote, but because their principals and ideals override their personal distaste.
I’ll try to find the quote – but there was a prominent Anti-slavery Republican that made the point: He didn’t like “Negros,” in-fact he was afraid of them. BUT he knew what was right and just, and followed his principals. He was afraid, but followed his heart and mind for a better world.
That’s what I want! I want principals and justice to lead the way *through* difficult and shadowy decisions.
I’d like to send them back the the Dixicrats where they came from.
Too bad the Rapture doesn’t come – everybody would be happy.
…
Obama has a hard road: Most of the levers of economic powers have already been pulled: We can’t spend our way out, taxes are already low, we have huge foreign investments and interest rates are low.
About the only economic thing that Obama can control are our wars: If he pulls out of Iraq *and* leaves a smoldering hole, he’ll be a one term’er.
The first time in his life that he has to produce instead of campaign, and he’s handed an empty tool box.
Almost feel sorry for him …
…
No excuses now! My city, state, federal government is packed full of Democrats.
I expect the rainbow in my garage, and gold in my pot by the end of next week.
Where’s my guberming check????
WHERE IS IT!
This is amazing.

Thank you John McCain.
You have and will continue to give your “last full measure.” I hope that while you and your brothers were prisoners of war, that you all knew how noble and honorable you were, and will continue to be.
Thank you.
Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
What a disappointing night for those who value liberty, hard work, and true conservatism. Obama has a huge task, and if we are to believe his promises, spending our way out of the situation, bankrupting industries he does not like, we are in for a world of hurt. Well, there is some sliver of hope- The Republic of California turned back the Homosexual marriage!
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
Mccains last speech was remarkable. WHAT AN AMAZING attitude and class he showed towards barack obama. Wow….McCain was a VERY good candidate. It was just the swing towards the dems this year….look for a rebound of the gop in the next 4-8 years. We’ll be back!
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
“go f&ck yourself” ???
Nice- is this what we can expect from you libs when things do not go your way?
You are a hypocrite- Blaming out of state Mormons, as if there were not out of state gay groups pouring in money. This more of a referendum, supported against activist Judges legislating from the bench. This was supported by the large hispanic population.
Good luck on your license. You may not give up without a fight, but like the good people in California, Arkansas, Florida, Arizona, did last night, neither will we. As far as your license, I could care less if you burn it, eat it, shove it where the sun don’t shine, it will just be a piece of worthless paper – most legal experts say the now illegal marriages will be invalidated.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
Uh… ohh… all’s not well in the liberal camp.
It was with the help and enthusiasm of Obama supporters that helped kill gay marriage rights in California.

Good idea! Where’s that photo of Ron Reagan with Margret Thatcher when I need it….
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
It think I killed that tube sock…
Gay Equal Rights
We all have the same rights. I can marry someone of the opposite sex just like everyone else can. I cannot marry someone of the same sex, the same as everyone else.
Heterosexual relationships are obvious, see the penis is designed to fit in the vagina! Anything else is an abomination of how we were designed.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
Stupid question…
Why will you think about abortion when “The Ghey” can be detected in the womb?
That’s one of the reasons I starting to not support mass abortion – in twenty years, all the children will be ‘perfect.’ Not good in the long run.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
[It was African American women who supported it most strongly. Oh, the irony.]
Da’d be right! y’all take yer homo buns ou’ta here. Da white house is fo us breeders.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
Right, it was African Americans, and young/first time voters!
I find the debate interesting- this gay activist (Renton-Citizen) resorts to telling his/her (not sure what they are)those who point out facts- to FU. Could be just a shitty day in a shitty little life.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
>>A majority of the hispanic population did *not* vote for Prop 8.
With the re-write of the title from “Kill Gays and Their Marrage” to “Destroy the Rights of Marrage for people who a not not not not gay” – I’m supprised anybody knew what they were voting for.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
I’ll see if I can nuture this split in the Democrats:
Do you know that Black women are giving birth to more black women – USING YOUR TAX MONEY TO FEED THEIR CHILDREN.
…
Do you know that Gay People have a type of Radar that can make your children get the GHEY from licking food stamps?
…
My work here is done.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
No, go out and live in peace, do not use crass language to disparage. You have revealed yourself to be a crude individual. I have always found your kind (not homos- but those who chose to articulate the way you do) to be on the losing side of things, that you are forced into the type of response we see.
I agree homosexuals living together have no impact on me. However, I do believe re definning what marriage is not right for our society, and families. So, go and and tell me to F- off, I will not get in the gutter with you, but rather congradulate CA and the other states.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
No, I say to you, “darn you”. Do not use crass language to disparage. You have revealed yourself to be a crude individual. I have always found your kind (not homos- but those who chose to articulate the way you do) to be on the losing side of things, that you are forced into the type of response we see. You would be much more relevant if you argued patiently, even fiercely, but your choice of words and attacks are disappointing. Shame.
I agree homosexuals living together have no impact on me. However, I do believe re defining what marriage is not right for our society, and families. So, go and and tell me to F- off, I will not get in the gutter with you, but rather congratulate CA and the other states.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
Well, I refuse to get in the gutter with you and I will not tell you to F- off, but instead, give you and your kind notice, that I will fight vigorously to prevent homosexual discrimination, harassment, and promote the benefits of civil unions etc, and at the same time, defend the definition of marriage, between a man and a woman. I find it outrageous that you would drop F-bombs, as a debate style. My point was that in an overall disappointing evening for conservatives, the only good piece of news was to reel in activist judges who seek to thwart the will of the people. You can blame confusing voter guides, out of state $, but the fact remains, the issue is simple, and most Americans where this comes up, votes in favor of preventing the extreme left from changing traditional marriage, that is it.
I am glad the vote came out, but it is of minimal consequence, I am more alarmed with the rest of America giving the Left, Carte Blanche on taxes, redistribution, etc. I like Obama’s chief of staff (more of a pragmatic centrist) so maybe the damage will be contained.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
Have you no sense of proportion, and smarts? Obama and just about every other candiate you libs wanted, won, (some by the slimest of margins), and you say this is a great day, yet those same citizens vote on a gay issue, also by a slim margin, yet you rail against that vote? I too am comforted to know millions of pople saw through a campaign of fear and lies, and misinformation, and voted for conservatives (just not enough of them)
I am just as upset with your comments, Suggesting radiacally changing the defintion of marriage is ok.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
No, Prop 8 re winds the activist Court who changed the definiton of marriage…It corrected somthing that never should have been changed in the fist place.
Equally as sad as ignoring the 47 million voters that agreed with the conservative approach. It is good we seem to be beyond race (that was never a factor in my disdain for him), I just can not get around the economic socialist policies he has promised us. We will cheer that a mixed race fella can transend past racial problems, but we will be watching closely how he governs. I hope he proves me wrong, though he past speeches and votes suggest otherwise.
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
I will not, because you continue to perpetuate falsehoods, and slander. Redefinition of marriage does not equate to civil rights. That is the point of civil unions.
People voted because they disagreed with the court, who may have been elected in the past, but that does not mean they make decisions that the majority of CA voters agree with, hence the initiative process.
Your statment about those who fight agaist marriage redefinition is insulting, and just plain ignorant. As long as you use the line of “debate” (that is what this is), I will respond in kind to refute you.
Kevin, ease up a little! You are quite the violent fella aren’t you. That language is really bad for the kids that visit this site. If anyone should be upset, it should be me. All my candidates lost this time. I’m actually quite happy today. See, us conservatives can accept the results and move on without the anger. I have found an opportunity in all this and I’ll be fine. The ones who rely on government are not going to do all that well in the near future. I think that there will be some very disappointed libs in the future. No more blaming the republicans after January. I’m going to sit back and enjoy the show, cuz it’s gonna get good with the libs running wild. Hey Ben, let’s start up a business filming liberals in action. We’ll call it “Liberals Gone Wild.” TCC

And, yes….. Felons vote overwhelmingly democratic:
http://dwb.thenewstribune.com/news/local/story/4850294p-4452879c.html
The above post may be crude (the one about the penis and vagina), but it is fundamentally true , people can marry someone of the opposite sex with no restrictions at all. This is not a civil rights issue, the law applies to everyone. Gays can live with whoever, with essentially the same civil rights. It is the radical gay groups who seek to force their lifestyle on the rest of America, and alter, what is and always will be an absolute. And to think the young will overturn, give me a break. The reason that exit polls show overwhelmingly that folks over the age of 30 support the initiative, is because by the time they get to that age, certain truths are solidified; that is, marriage is sacred, and designed to promote healthy and successful marriages. Fact is, kids growing up with a mom & dad have a significant advantage of growing up healthy and secure. Gay folks like RC can still lead happy and productive lives, with committed relationships, but to compare to marriage as it should be defined is wrong. Sure, there are plenty of examples of failed marriages, but on the whole, man/woman marriage should be protected, and defiantly not diluted by those seeking to alter the meaning.
So- I disagree with you Randy, RC, and the rest, your view is probably colored by the liberal bias in Seattle area we live in, but just as confident as you are that this will change, I have faith that most Americans agree with the voters of California, Arizona, AR , Florida, and any other state that want to put this on the ballet. Do not make the mistake that those who support and cheer the vote, that we are all religious right wing folks, no, we are the voice of America, at least on this issue!
One more thing, RC FU comments above, do reveal him to be a violent little agitater. I would hope your argumentitive style would be passionate, but for Gods sake, keep it civil.
You know, over the past year, I’ve gone to great lengths to be civil, even when addressing those who treat me with extreme contempt. But enough is enough. The vote in CA has put things into perspective for me, and I’m really not in the mood for conciliatory dialog with people like you, Rationale Person. If you’re offended by the F-word, tough shit — you deserve to be called out for your bigotry. Even my very Republican, born-again cousin in Bellevue doesn’t have a problem with gay marriage. In fact, she sees it as a wonderful opportunity for me, and wants to plan our wedding celebration this Spring. And she’s over 30, by the way. My entire office of over 70 people held a surprise wedding shower for my husband and I after we returned from CA, and my straight coworkers are terribly upset about the CA vote. We may live in a liberal area, but you are more than welcome to move to Arkansas if you require institutionalized bigotry, both past and present.
I am neither a violent person nor a “radical gay activist” by any stretch of the imagination, but I *am* more than capable of standing up for my rights as a citizen, including my right to marriage equality in CA, where it was LEGAL UNDER THE LAW for me to marry in August.
You are just a plain mean man. Facts are given, you dispute, and rage your intolerance and hatred toward those who cheer sanity. It is you my opponent, that is the intolerant bigot. The people spoke in CA, in AZ, in FL, in AR, and will do so in WA, you disagree, and resort to offensive and hate filled langauge. Shame.
By the way sport, just because you know someone over 30 that agrees with you misses the point, exit polls show the majority over 30 agree, so the conclusion is based on statistical facts. Get over yourself. There is no contempt, just agreeing with the voters, one small victory in a night of defeat, of which I do not agree with their judgement. But unlike a mean, out of control, crass man, I refuse to drop any f bombs, or use foul language.
By the way, you have done this in the past, I love how you mock and disparage a group of people, because of your perception- the good folks in AR. Given your “rationale”, you might say it is ok to slam other groups for no reason? I disagree and implore you to join me in rejecting attacking people from other areas or ideologies.
Ben, this is why identity politics are necessary.
I see your view, and I also see how people are afraid that traditional famlies are under ‘attack.’ I also suggest that your humanity and identity should be more than just “Im Gay” – but that’s just me.
To us traditionalist: Don’t worry about the gays – they’ll do their own thing. We should worry about ourselves with high divorce rates, absent fathers and uneducated children.
Remember that a lot of gay people work hard, keep their head down, and have fought for this country. Even Japan was nuked by a Gay – her name was Enola. (kidding).
…
Remember: Monkeys fling poo at each other, and you don’t have to be offended by it. You’re not a monkey.
To add; just because someone agrees that marriage shold not be redefined and follows the legal process and agrees with the vote to uphold that belief, does not make that person anti gay, and less humane. The only time I am taunted to fling monkey poo, is when someone tells me to F off…then the poo will fly.
>>does not make that person anti gay,
Agreed. There’s a reason this is a representative democracy with judicial oversight.
I wasn’t referring to you or anybody with the monkey poo – it’s just that we don’t have to accept to be offended by words or thoughts if we chose to not be offended as it doesn’t pertain.
Usually, when someone hurls accusations or insults – it says more about the speaker than the listener.
It won’t be long until California’s Prop 8 is reversed
It won’t be long until Prop 8 is reversed.
There have already been court challenges filed, which may or may not reverse it…depending on the arguments and the mood of the court.
But more significantly, the demographics of who voted which way were heavily age dependent. Californians age thirty and younger overwhelmingly opposed the measure, while those age 65 and older supported it in larger numbers. Those in between were split.
One can do the math, and see where our country is headed on this issue. It won’t be long for this age pattern to make up the vote differential. The younger generations are simply not as hung up on this subject as their grandparents generation.A little bit of actuarial mathematics predicts the 4 % spread of this initiative would go away in about four years time.
That will be right about the time when the highest courts are done ruling on Prop 8.
Here is some more information.
Re: It won’t be long until California’s Prop 8 is reversed
Act fast then…
As the immigrant populations rise – the window of ‘opportunity’ may slam shut. Tolerance for gays is a recent change that’s basically centered around well educated agnostic white people who are increasingly becoming irrelevant.
Re: It won’t be long until California’s Prop 8 is reversed
Yes Randy, and yet again it will prove that the courts will legislate from the bench, which is a bigger issue no matter what side of any issue you stand on. I don’t like the change in power going on in this country in this regard.
Re: Gay Equal Rights
Renton_Citizen, don’t waste your energy on the small minded. You have greater things in life to accomplish like getting the word out to ensure a positive outcome in the gay marriage rights the next time around. Is it true that a civil union does not protect the surviving partner’s inheritance position on assets? In a marriage the surviving spouse is the benefactor of assets. It’s my understanding that in a civil union, a family member of the deceased could step in and claim the assets away from the surviving partner. Is it true that in a civil union both adults aren’t automatically named as parent of a child, while in a marriage both are parents of a child in that relationship?
In other posts ( about a month ago) you use your given name – further back you’ve signed your posts with both names.
If you don’t want people to know who your are, why do you use your own name?
Re: Gay Equal Rights
What should I call you, RC? Just let me know. You do what you think you need to do. TCC
Out TCC! Do it!
Re: Gay Equal Rights
These increasingly irrelevant SarahBoinkers will never get it, so it doesn’t do any good to be outraged (or right) when dealing with them.
The real abomination is not a well deserved epithet, but this Faux-Christian outrage which is nothing but pathetic fear dressed up as righteousness.
Young people are changing the world, and gay equality will be a part of our future as much as any other rights which were once unimaginable. Don’t let these dinosaurs get to you in your disappointment; you and your husband will have the last laugh. Stay strong.
Re: Gay Equal Rights
Nice Kos talking points. Try not to be such a puppet, even if you do enjoy the hand.
…
Most of us don’t have a problem with full civi unions, so there, neener neener.
It’s just not marriage – unless you like living in your own lalalala land.
The govenment should be enforcing religious ideals like marrige anyways – the same people who can’t tie their own shoes without union help should keep the hell away from my religion.
That statement is bull! I’m not trying to yank your chain. By the way, none of the above posted anti-gay arguments came from me. I can care less about that subject. TCC
Re: Way to go California! (a slice of sanity in a tough night)
My hunch is that a test for “The Ghey” would only be effective later in the pregnancy – apparently there’s a week correlation between a mothers hormones, birth order and the mother watches Opera. Or something.
I’d be a weird world – some would abort their late term gay children. I would find that reprehensible myself.
….
Pope Paul wrote some beautiful passages – one stuck me in particular: Children are not here to delight their parents, they are here to delight God.
Re: Gay Equal Rights
No where….
Marriage has been the traditional prevue of religion – at least in western civilization, certainly in muslim civilization. It’s only the recent usurpation of marriage by the state that has given us this grief. By splitting the civil portion and the religious portion back to their respective parties – we all can have what we want.
There are two sides, however that are unreasonable:
1) People who want to see gays suffer
2) People who want to rub the noses of straights and *force* them to call ‘it’ marriage.
If you happen to find (easy to do) a church/lump-of-rock that will bless your union and call it marriage, so be it. I just happen to think it unreasonable for the *state* to call it marriage – and I’ll go so far to expect the state to stay out of straight marriage as well.
Why the hell should some bureaucrat be involved with it in the first place is beyond me – marriage is between two people and perhaps their gods.
I’m married to my wife because me, my wife, my pastor, and my God say so – the secretary of state can go piss off for all I care. The state gave me a piece of paper, my God gave me my companion.
You’re married because you say so, and while I’m not a fan of Gays – it’s wrong that you can’t be by your loved one if he should suffer and all the other ‘civil’ responsibilities that go with it.
There is a middle ground that’s logical, reaonable and true. I don’t see the benefit of trying to get the state to call your union marriage when a better path would be to fight for civil unions and find someone to bless your union if you need it – and derive the word ‘marriage’ from there rather from the state.
Just don’t force me to call it ‘marriage’ against my will with state coersion – if I meet you, I’d probably do it anyway.
Look away from government for your solution, and fight for civil-union contracts and you’d probably find a lot of people who would join you.
….
Re: Gay Equal Rights
>>You’re not a fan of Gays? Not sure what to say to that.
Bad phrasing on my part. I could care less about gayness – but identity politics always seems sad to me.
I’m not a fan of anybody that wears their sexuality on their sleeve. Be it a frat boy, slut, or queer. I enjoy working and socialising with pepole who are gay – but they’re sexuality is a part of their lives, not their entire life.
But that’s just me. Don’t worry ’bout it.
…
My dad was alter boy in a San Francisco Catholic church – and yep… he was attacked by a stereotype. He clams up, but his mom took him out of the church and is now an atheist. Good times.
If we all could go torch NMBLA – a lot of straight angst would go away. There is a perception that gayness is a slippery slope to evil. There it is… Sorry.
My problem, not yours.
Sorry if I seem incoherent – too much C++ (“today”, “yesterday”);
Straight Talk
Wow, Uncle Randy. Things seem to get heated on your blog.
Anyway, as a California citizen, and someone not quite old enough to vote, it disgusts me that prop. 8 passed. After slavery and Japanese Internment camps in our own country, it amazes me that people are still this fearful and intolerant of other people.
I hope the people who voted yes on this measure are proud of them selves for passing the torch of discrimination and hate onto another generation.
I honestly can’t figure out why you care who other people marry.
Re: Straight Talk
It is good to hear from someone so young. I see how my views of life and politics have changed some since that time, and the change has come from living life. I don’t know who has you correlating slavery and internment to a gay rights issue, but that is a stretch. Remember, outrageous claims are rarely seen as legitimate. You need to craft your arguments on facts, not feelings should you care to get through to someone. And the fact is that we all enjoy the same rights equally as is.
Re: Straight Talk
>>Japanese Internment camps
I’ll defend Japanese Internment Camps. We were fighting a war with an enemy that had *VERY* loyal citizens – and many recent Japanese immigrants were collaborating with Imperial Japan. Many we’re not – and given the very difficult circumstances, temporary interment was a reasonable response.
Some of my family took care of a Japanese artichoke farm for an interred family – and upon returning, the Japanese family was proud to have served America, if only by being absent. We remain friendly with the family to this day – and none of the children has cashed their ‘reparation’ check. They are very proud of this fact and have disgust for the greed of others.
Many families lost children and loved ones to that damed war – sitting on the sidelines was not an unreasonable sacrifice. Many people in the interment camps helped decode/translate japanese transmissions – their service in the face of humility is very commendable.
Three cheers for the good people in the internment camps – scorn for their greedy ones.
Re: Straight Talk
Now I’ve heard it all! There are a couple? posters on this blog that could really use an intense experience of what it is to be treated differently purely because of the color of their skin, to be shipped off to an internment camp because of their ethnicity, to be jeered because of gender orientation.
Re: Straight Talk
Many people whould have gladly traded places with the Japanese American citizens – I’ll take getting ‘jeered’ over having my family slowly and painfully die in the hell called war.
Go do a bit of traveling where you’ll find families dying for a lack of $5 worth of food.
You’ll learn to appreciate getting ‘jeered’ at – at least it means you’re still alive.
Re: Straight Talk
OK. I’m sorry my example was to extreme for you, but the point i’m trying to make is that taking rights away from other people is not an effective way to spend ones time or move this country forward. Prop.8 will probably get overturned anyway, because I think this state is better than the discrimination we are trying to pass on other people.
Re: Straight Talk
Cool..
If anybody though of Internment, right now, I’d be on your side. I would probably be violent in my opposition – it’s .just at the time, the decision was rational and while not ideal, was understadable.
We all knew we won WWII – but at the time, that didn’t seem certain to most people.
…
Welcome to the fray – while this thread is a bit contentious, we’re usually pretty civil. Hope to see you around.
Randy is the worst rabble-rouser – His pretending to be a guy named TCC is really clever. (kidding)
Re: Straight Talk
TCC’s in the house! There is only one TCC, that’s me. I do like Randy, he’s a good guy and fun to be around. I am a conservative, pure and simple!! A nice guy too. TCC
Re: Straight Talk
I know people who were sent to the Japanese Internment Camps, and they weren’t happy at all about it.
Re: Straight Talk
Let me call the whaaambulance:
Re: Straight Talk
Prop probably will not get overturned, the will of the people on CA have been made clear 2 times now, as well as every other state that had a similar measure. This is simply not discrimition, anyone can get married, to a member of the opposite sex. Anyone can have sex with a consentng adult….
Re: Straight Talk
In year 2000 gay marriage was defeated in California by 61 % of voters. In 2008 it was defeated by only 52% of voters. Society is changing….young voters (under 30) overwhelmingly support allowing gay marriage. Spending resources in court opposing gay marriage is a poor use of funds, since the majority of voters will favor allowing it (and hence vote it back into law) in three or four years.
Re: Straight Talk
Sorry Randy, you are just wrong… 4 states, all defeated similar bills. If one had a chance, it would have been CA. That being said, the pro initiate faced an unprecedented onslaught of money, from out of state, and the hollywood elite. Despite overwhelming odds, the forces to maitain marriage rights for all was successful (marriage as it has always has been). Young voters (maybe not in the lib world), will overwhelming understand when they begin to start families, that there is somthing worthwhile, to keep marriage meaningful, and part of society to raise healthy families. Gay marriage laws and referendums have only been successful with activist courts. When you put the rubber to the road, the majority of Amercicans agree- Marriage is sacred, purposeful, and availble to all, man to woman, woman to man. This takes away nothing from gays, they can continue to enjoy civil unions, and protected under the law from harrassment and discrimination.
Re: Straight Talk
How would a gay couple being married threaten our society’s ability to raise healthy families? Have you watched some of the offspring of married heterosexuals on the daytime tv shows and how dysfunctional they can be?
Re: Straight Talk
>>How would a gay couple being married threaten our society’s ability to raise healthy families?
I don’t necessarily agree with the following, but if you have to ask:
1) Homosexuality could have a component that’s learned behavior – seeing gay people in such a role could influence others.
2) Calling a gay union ‘marriage’ devalues the procreation aspect of traditional marriage and could cause a population decrease if behavior is emulated.
3) Gay’s getting married would drive up the costs of marriage for the rest of us – their tasteful flower arrangement, professional photography and lavish parties would set a standard that would be impossible to follow.
I’m drunk…. time for bed.
Re: Straight Talk
>>I honestly can’t figure out why you care who other people marry.
No rational person has much objection to gay civil unions (marriage in fact, not name) – just calling it marriage is very difficult for a lot of us.
We breeders think we’re special, at least my mother always told me I was special. So did CPS.
Dem’s In Charge – McCarthyism
Originally this all started with the election issue, I’d like to get back to something that means something to me.
In some of the earlier posts prior to the election some of the posts tried to link McCarthyism to the Republican party. OK, so the party I supported lost, I’m past that and want to support the president elect because I made it clear, I will always try to put country first and in these times we are faced with serious international threats.
What has me troubled is today Harry Reid has indicated he will remove Lieberman in his role with homeland security because of some of his recent statements and positions are questionable.
So staying on point, leave emotion out of it, is this not troubling, smacking of what some would believe to be McCarthyism. – Sour Krauthammer
Re: Dem’s In Charge – McCarthyism
So the party purges have begun. Lieberman was also aligned with the now irrelevant Clintons/Gore.
The party will consume itself.
Re: Dem’s In Charge – McCarthyism
Republicans Eat Their Young
How quickly the McCain campaign organizers have thrown Palin under the bus. First, malign Obama. That doesn’t work so now malign Palin.
Re: Republicans Eat Their Young
>>Republicans Eat Their Young
Yes.. they’re quite tasty with BBQ sauce. Liberal babies usually need to be stewed first.
Re: Republicans Eat Their Young
Of course your assumption is this was done at the hands of a Republican.
Re: Republicans Eat Their Young
McCain’s own campaign organizers
Re: Republicans Eat Their Young
>>McCain’s own campaign organizers
That doesn’t mean they’re Republicans…. snicker.
This election was between a Democrat and a Socialist.
And we are glad you spoke out during the city council election process!! Where the money was coming from in that campaign should be a big worry.
Yep – you’re quite reasonable.
You felt attacked, and more importantly you felt your family was being attacked. While, I may not entirely agree with everything – defending your family is to be commended. Even if you’re wrong. (grin)
I’m sorry for all of us that we’ve *all* been reduced to stereotypes.
I’ll go back to beating my wife and children.
…
I can take credit for the Enola remark – I was trying to thing about a gay member of the miltary without going back to antiquity.
(Heh…. there’s a pun in the previous sentence)
Re: Gay Equal Rights
There’s a running joke among our friends, given how most molestation is done by the biological father of the family:
“If you’re worried about pedophiles, you need to lock yourself up”
Re: Gay Equal Rights
This is a funny way to put it Renton Ben, and I think there may be something to it. Statistics show that family members pose the greatest risk to kids, much more than the feared but rare “lurking stranger”. Some kids should run to a stranger in the park, to get away from their parents. And some of the adults with the biggest phobias are the ones I have occasional doubts about. It’s weird how life works.
Re: Gay Equal Rights
I’m actually encouraging my children to interact with strangers. I’m hoping that they learn how normal people behave – and when some sicko gets near them, they’ll have enough experience to spot the difference.
Renton sure is a hot-bed of sex offenders around here – there’s two within 600 feet of my house. Not sure how I feel about it – if it were up to me, child rapeists would be set on fire, gutted then mulched.
At the same time, just streaking or pissing on a tree is enough to get you thrown in jail and have to register yourself. Two horny fifteen year olds having fun are now labeled as sex offenders.
Weird.
Illinois lotto numbers on 11/5
Make of it what you will. The day after the election, the winning Illinois lotto numbers were 6-6-6. Google “Illinois state lotto” and look up “past winning numbers” for 2008. Anyone here read the “Left Behind” series? TCC
Re: Illinois lotto numbers on 11/5
Only the insHannity mouthbreathers like yourself read that crap.
Fairy tales for losers consoling themselves with Rapture Revenge. Bring it.

Re: Illinois lotto numbers on 11/5
I knew this would happen. I state a few facts and you lose it. Did you check the numbers? I’ll compare my mental stability to yours any day. You may not read the Bible, and that’s fine with me. This is a typical response from a whack job lib, which you are. You refuse to look at facts and make a ridiculous statement in response to my post. You must have low self esteem and feel like an underdog in the game of life. Is the Bible a fairy tale in your eyes? TCC
Re: Illinois lotto numbers on 11/5
Oooh… penetrating Psycho analysis there, loser. Of course all us libs are really feeling like underdogs after kicking ass on you low information /value voters. Dominionist fiction is perfect for you, I think you should spend lots of time studyin’ up. By the way, it’s Sarah Sak’s-puppet that’s the whack job- didn’t you get the McCain memo?

Check the Illinois state lotto page and prove me wrong. It is a fact that the 11/5 winning numbers were 6-6-6. Prove me wrong, then pop off! TCC
Re: Illinois lotto numbers on 11/5
Have you ever considered the irrelevance of the bulk of your posts?
Re: Illinois lotto numbers on 11/5
Yet have you ever considered the even more irrelevance of your posts and others like it when you won’t stay on point? Everyone knows when one counters an argument the response needs to stay on topic otherwise it is summarily dismissed because the response has nothing to do with the topic. It’s like saying, “I have no response to that, but I’ll throw this out and see if I can throw the discussion because I don’t want to look stupid.”
If TCC’s post means nothing to you then I could respect someone who says so. But when the responses fly off the handle then you only make yourself look like you don’t have it together.
I can’t figure out what why posts can’t stay on point. We get all pissed off at our own elected officials (either side folks) when they argue at length without staying on topic, yet we resort to the same and wonder why nothing can be accomplished. On either side, grow up and use your noodle.

Re: Illinois lotto numbers
No, just another country first conservative who can’t believe 53% would vote for a huckster. You’re being taken to the cleaners, you just can’t see that far. That nit-wit has already said he can’t keep all of his promises, after the election. You’ll be lucky if you even get a reach around after he gets done with you and this country, but who knows, maybe that’s enough for you. Not me. Attorneys, shysters, and hucksters have no moral code/compass to guide themselves. They’ll step on anyone to get ahead, and at every turn Obama has done just that. But who cares, as long as you get your immediate gratification.
Re: Illinois lotto numbers on 11/5
Is that all you got FSM? Keep embarrassing yourself. You just proved my point and showed your IQ. You are sure a tough one. I’d hate to meet you in a dark alley downtown. You’d probably really do some damage wouldn’t you? How long is that criminal record of yours? Let me know who you are so I can avoid running into you. I don’t want to get harmed. I may even consider moving out of town. TCC

Obama’s Dilemma, Landslide to Backslide
Now what’s the plan? More bailout money? Where will it all come from? And for the lady in Chicago elated that she can now pay her mortgage and car payment, you are in for a rude surprise. Even Barack says he can’t keep all of his promises, yet most people voted for him based on “hope”. Who will he disenfranchise when he realizes he only has so much money before he sucks the life blood out of America and we collapse.
I looked up the lotto numbers, and I’ll be danged, they were 666. Premonition, luck, whatever the case, the facts show Obama will fail miserably even with the Senate backing him. Change your exercise routines to using a pick and shovel because when we all loose our jobs because of the size of Obama’s hypodermic needle the government will own us if Russia, China, or N. Korea don’t attack us first.

I wish Iran well – the people are awesome, especially the younger ones. Their protests in the face of total oppression is inspiring.

FSM, don’t waste time or energy on TCC. He doesn’t realize how irrelevant his postings are. The conversation on this particular blog topic has run its course and died out.
Re: Obama’s Dilemma, Landslide to Backslide
You just don’t like to hear an opposing point of view. You try to shut down what you don’t want to hear by using insults. That’s fine by me, I can take it. I had to deal with this kind of stuff throughout my career. You libs just don’t like the fact that 3-4 conservatives chime in and break up your little liberal love fest. TCC
